I have read many 19th century novels, but this one was particularly bad -- espouses a dreadful kind of moralistic Christianity in which an innocent baby dies to 'save' a drunkard by causing him to repent, etc.
It had some very good family thoughts that we could us today. It was very close to the settings of the times.
Wonderful insight to the period through the different personalities of the family. Many heartfelt lessons interwoven throughout a great set of stories.
I really enjoy the literary works of Isbella Alden. I am just finding out about her works. So enjoyable. These two books were very enjoyable.
